State Solo and Ensemble - Exemplary Performances
Marshfield High School students competed in the State Solo and Ensemble Festival at the University of Wisconsin – Stevens Point on Saturday, May 5th.
There were 73 events (solos and ensembles) that qualified for the festival in band, choir or orchestra. To qualify the event must be a "Class A" event, which is the hardest caliber of music on the list. In addition, the piece must be performed at the regional competition and receive a top rating at that festival.
Once at State, the highest award a soloist can receive in the exemplary soloist award. Marshfield had 3 exemplary soloist award winners, Katie Streckert (junior) on voice, Luisa Marion (sophomore) on violin, and Uma Neal (grade 6) on cello. It is an honor to receive the exemplary soloist award at the state festival because that means it was one of two best performances the judge heard that day.
Uma Neal performed her award-winning piece, "Serabande" from the Bach Cello Suites, at the School Board meeting held on Wednesday, May 13th.
